Alfred Lovell Gardens: Former clerk to Oldland

Archer Court: A Mrs Archer, resident in London
in the 18th century, was sister to Sir Michael Newton
of Barrs Court. In 1748 she paid to have a monument
restored in Bristol Cathedral. It was one which
had been erected to the memory of Sir Richard Newton-Cradock
and his wife, also of Barrs Court.
Armstrong Court: Named after a local railway
engineer.
Aubrey Meads: After Dr Aubrey who served the
Bitton area in the 1920's and 30's.
Barrs Court Road/Ave.: These are recent names,
originally known as Abbess Lane. An area of land
here was owned by the nuns of Lacock Abbey before
the time of Henry VIII. The Avenue was just a small
unnamed side turning until the current houses were
built in the 1950's , it was then named.
Batley Court: Thomas Batley was keeper of
the Kings Forest in 1596
Bickford Close: After a local Doctor
Bodey Close: Edgar Bodey was Headmaster of
nearby Cadbury Heath School from 1901-1929.
Brayne Close: Probably after the Brayne family
who ran a boot factory in North Common. see St Stephens
Business Park.
Brereton Way: Mr Brereton (AKA the Irishman)
was the farmer of this land and acted as the local
vet. He lived at Stanley House in Stanley Gardens.
