Cadbury Heath Road: Probably the oldest
road rame in the area. There was a Heath here up
to 1827. Cadbury indicates a pre-historic settlement
- Cad's Camp. This was thought to be in the area
of what is now Heath Rise.
California Road: Known as Dodd's Lane
until the mid 1960's. Sometimes also known as Pit
Lane after the nearby colliery. Road was renamed
after California Pit, possibly to try and reflect
a more "up market" status.
Capel Close: Named after Bert Capel
who farmed the land before development.
Castle Road: He held the stewardship
of the Kings Forest for his uncle, William 1.
Chequers Close: After the public house
which once stood nearby (closed in 1869)
Cheriton Place: John de Cheriton was
Edward 11's steward (Royal Forest connection)
Chubb Close: Alan Chubb was surveyor
to the old Warmley District Council. He designed
many local buildings and named some local roads.
Churchill Close: After the local farmer
of this land.
Cloverlea Road: The original name was
Gypsy Lane, local Gypsies had an encampment here.
Renamed to try and reflect a more "up market"
area status.
Cook Close: Built on land originally
housing Neads Boot Factory, the council got it wrong
see Neads Close. Mr Cook was Warmley Rural District
Council's ONLY lorry driver in the 1930's. He lived
in a cottage between the Happy Shopper and Neads
Drive in North Common.
Craddock Close: The Craddocks inherited
what was Barrs Court from Philip Hampton.
Crane Close: Owner of the firework
factory at Warmley, hence nearby roads Firework
and Fawkes close.
Crown Road: The land here was originally
part of the ancient Crown Farm.
